The Club

The establishment of the club in April 2003 was made possible though a ‘Start Up’ grant from the Lisburn Borough Council and was the recipient of an award from the National Lottery’s ‘Awards for All’ which was used to partially fund the purchase of equipment.

The Japanese word HAZAMA translates to "Valley". The club was named Hazama by the head coach after the Valley Judo Club in Newtownabbey. The Valley judo Club is where Mark started to learn Judo and is its longest serving member(since 1983).

Initially the club was seeking premises in the greater Moira / Maghaberry area, and thanks to the support of Maghaberry Primary School, Hazama found its home for the first 5 years. The Maghaberry residents association then worked very hard to find funds to build its own Community Centre, and we have been based there ever since.

The Club members have won numerous All Ireland titles and in 2009 won the Lisburn City Junior Team of the Year.
